THE DAY THE RAIN CAME - FIRST PODIUM FOR PHILIPP WALSDORF IN THE DEKM

The Home of Champions in Belgian Genk is known to have changing weather conditions. The whole day nobody knew how to prepare for the races because the sky was changing from sun to clouds and back. The track changed from dry to wet and back quickly. Qualifying was done in dry conditions, Philipp put his kart in fifteenth position. All drivers had their slick tyres mounted when they went into the servicing park as it started raining. So rain tyres were mounted quickly before starting. Unfortunately the wrong decision because the rain stopped again and the track got dry, but it was too late to change back. Some drivers did not change tyres and could take the advantage. Philipp ended thirteenth.
In the second race Philipp changed his luck. As we had seen many times before he raced into the front row and ended third, being the first time on the podium in the DEKM. The third race he had to give away two positions and finished fifth. Not a bad day after all.
Sunday was not his best day. After staying on position ten and eleven during qualifying and the first two races he got pushed from the back in the final race and had to stop his kart already after half the distance of the race.
The VIP-Karts were on the track as well during this weekend. German television star Richy Mueller and Motorsport-XL editor Christoph Kragenings took part in the competition and showed that they also know how to drive an electric kart. They both delivered good results and had a lot of fun during the weekend.
An interesting kart season ended where Philipps career had started some years before when he did his first testing weekend and race in the Kart Team Timo Scheider. Thanks a lot to Christian Scheider for his professional support. And here in this place Philipps karting career should end as well because he will jump into bigger cars now. But this is a different story.
